Jason Voorhees and Samara Morgan, in case you didn’t know, has been a pair of intimidating movie-goers for quite some time now. However, it seems as though Paramount is not too intimidated by them – they have just pushed yet another reboot of Friday the 13th from 2016 and 2017, plus Rings is set for spring next year.
The studio has symbolically pushed Friday the 13th from May 13, 2016 to January 13, 2017, which incidentally falls on Friday. This is the 3rd postponing – it was originally planned for March 13, 2015 and then again for November 13, 2015. While there are valid, non-damning reasons for a studio to move a release from May to January, it’s not a decision that tends to inspire much confidence, as Eric Snider points out:
The newly set date falls amidst some other big announcements for that date – the Power Rangers reboot, Geostorm (Gerard Butler’s thriller) and The Dark Tower (Ron Howard’s Stephen King franchise starter).New FRIDAY THE 13th moved from May 2016 to January 2017. "We haven't shot it yet, but we're confident it will be terrible," said Paramount.— Eric D. Snider (@EricDSnider) October 20, 2015
Rings on the other hand, have been pushed into 2016, instead of November 13, 2015. Samara will return on April 1st, 2016 going up against Eddie the Eagle, sports biopic; Collide, Nicholas Hoult thriller and Green Room.
Friday the 13th, which will, again symbolically, be the 13th movie of the same name, will be directed by David Bruckner, and the screenplay writer Nick Antosca.
