LG shows off double-sided 111-inch 4K OLED TV

LG was the talk of the town at this year’s IFA, as they presented a true novelty in the smart television world – a two sided TV!

The double-sided display comes in two versions – the massive 111-inch version is made of three 65-inch Ultra HD OLED displays, and the 55-inch version is only 5.3 millimeters thick, continuing the trend of ultra-thin TVs.

Of course, you probably won’t need a two-sided TV in your house, whatever your furniture setup is, but it would come in handy for commercial display situations or showings in closed spaces.

If you decided you needed one right now, for whatever reason, we have bad news for you - both displays are more prototypes than products for now, and they serve the purpose of simply showing what LG can bring us in the future.

"Without backlight and other auxiliary layers, the OLED display is fundamentally less complicated compared to LCD, and in time less costly to manufacture," said Dr. Ching W. Tang. LG’s keynote presentation paid special respect to Dr. Ching W. Tang, crediting him for being one of the main pioneers of OLED technology.

From a commercial point of view, LG’s most interesting product at this year’s IFA was their “wallpaper” OLED display, a 55-inch display that’s paper-thin at thickness of just one millimeter. You don’t have to worry about rearranging your room around a new TV shelf for this one, as it can be attached to any wall simply by using magnet backing.

"I have no doubt, given its advanced features and superior performance – foldable, wearable, flexible and transparent, OLED is the display technology for the next generation," said Tang.
